1.5M 2-Slot to Standard Outlet Cord Review

1.5M 2-Slot to Standard Outlet Cord
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The cord is about as long as can be had for figure-8, 2-prong cords.
The other end is standard, 2-prong, US, non-polarized plug.
The ends are molded on and are snug.
The sheathing is a satin finish (not very glossy).
The cord is not sticky like many other brands, so it doesn't seem to pick up as much carpet fuzz.
The connectors fit snugly into the sockets and hold tight. No forcing required, but they don't wiggle loose either.
It's a pretty heavy duty cord.
The cable is labeled with this text:
KOK KAWASAKI (UL) E42955 NISPT-2 VW-1 2/18AWG FUJIKURA-T CSA PT-2 FT2 2/18AWG ZION
E42955 and FUJIKURA mean the cord is manufactured by:
FUJIKURA LTD
1-5-1 KIBA
KOTO-KU
TOKYO, 135-0042 JAPAN
The NISPT-2 means Nylon Irradiated, Stranded, Parallel, Thermoset, 2 conductor. NI is rated up to 105C before it begins to degrade. Stranded means it's for AC power ideally. Parallel means it's a flat cord. Thermoset means the outer insulation is melted on and will provide a little more durability.
2/18AWG means 2 conductors (110v and neutral), at 18 American Wire Gauge. 18AWG copper in open, 30C air will reach 105C at 18 Amps. A 6 foot length will have about 0.05 Ohms of resistance. As an extension cord, the copper is rated for 7 amps. Pull less if it will be wadded, or packed tightly without open air, or packed with other cords.
VW-1 - Interior conductors may be wrapped in Varnished Cambric (fabric), which is rated to 185F for dry locations only. The W means the outer layer is rated for 2000 volts, extra heavy duty usage. It's oil and dirt resistant.
CSA - C means "Cord" as in lamp cord, rated for temporary use (ie, not for installation in walls). S means Hard Service, for use as a pendant or on a garage floor. A means asbestos. The interior weave may be resistant to breaking down if overheated. This is embedded in the thermoset plastic, and should not be a health concern.
FT2 means a fixture wire, overall rated for up to 90C, with thermoset plastic outer cover, with 2 conductors inside.
UL means Underwriter Laboratories listed.

Olympus Stylus Tough 6020 14MP Digital Camera with 5x Wide Angle Zoom and 2.7 inch LCD (Black) Review

Olympus Stylus Tough 6020 14MP Digital Camera with 5x Wide Angle Zoom and 2.7 inch LCD (Black)

I have had the camera for a few days now and really put it through the paces. It is by far one of the best little point and clicks that I have had and I have had at least 5 in the past 5 years. It's built well and has a exceptional battery life (275 picks per charge on average with 14 meg pictures) and the recharge is fairly quick. I added a 16gig memory card for the video recording aspect and I love it. I can record 5 hours and 50 mins of 720p on the thing which is way nicer than the Flip that I was looking at. I used to get an occasional blurry shot with my other cameras from them not focusing well on moving objects (kids) but with this one I haven't had a bad shot yet on the kids running in the yard. It truly is amazing.
All in all it's a great little camera for the price.
And don't let the other guy scare you off from this camera. He more than likely put the card in before he hooked the camera up to his computer. By the way, make sure you hook the camera up to your computer BEFORE you put your memory card in. But if you screw up and put it in first all you have to do is clear out your pictures, eject the card and then plug it up to the computer for a fresh install.

Very convenient shirt-pocket camera that produces pleasing images. Versatile and plenty of features for such a small package. Good enough to substitute for a Super Zoom on a casual day trip. Bought the camera while on vacation in the Caribbean, and never pulled out the D-SLR again. Good video, not bad indoors and in low light, and nice iA feature for immediate situations. Would like a bit more than the 5x zoom, but otherwise would buy it again.

Universal Li-Ion Battery Charger with LCD Display up to 2000 mAh Review

Universal Li-Ion Battery Charger with LCD Display up to 2000 mAh
Average Reviews:

I was almost at the point of throwing this thing away, as figuring out how it worked was an exercise in backward engineering.
There are some directions on the side of the box which of no use what-so-ever. I finally found a U Tube Video on how the thing works, [...]. It is for a different model, but at it shows exactly how to use this device.
I aligned the little prongs into position, by sliding them over. Once the prongs make contact with two of the battery contacts, (You might need your reading glasses for this), the LED display will light up, and show an image of a battery. Plug it in, and wha la, it starts charging.
It's really pretty ingeniously simple once you figure the frigging thing out, and it works great. It charged my Droid Incredible battery in about 3-4 hours, so I'm very pleased.
Not the most sturdy thing on the planet, so be gentle with it, and I guess there are more heavy duty devices out there, but, for the price it works really well, and is small enough to go with you anywhere. I also like that is doesn't need a power cord.
If you have a smart phone, and need a cool little device to charge that extra battery you're carrying in your pocket, or purse, this little gadget is ideal.

I purchased this TV /DVD player as a Christmas present and was shocked to find that the T.V. did not pick up one channel with the antenna provided. I got a booster antenna at Radio Shack for $12 and was able to get 22 air channels. The DVD works well and the colors are very nice. I'm not too sure how well it will work when we get out next hurricane or how long the battery will last, but this is why I purchased this item.

Cyber PowerTM 8 Outlet 1500 Joules With Fax and Modem Protection Surge Strip With a 6ft Cord Review

Cyber PowerTM 8 Outlet 1500 Joules With Fax and Modem Protection Surge Strip With a 6ft Cord
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I've been using Cyberpower protectors for ages. I have 4 different ones in my house and had two save thousands of dollars in equipment once.
Surge Suppressors(protectors) are designed to cut your equipment off from the outlet the moment it detects a surge of power. The Joules rating on surge protectors is important. Essentially the higher the rating, the more durable the surge protector is. 500 joules is all you need, but the higher you go the more resilient the protector becomes. This is because the minute a surge protector/suppressor blocks a surge the components inside are designed to detect said surge, and redirect it to ground(avoiding your components) This results in the device breaking/burning out. The more joules the device can handle, the more it is able to redirect before failing. So a 2000 joule device could perhaps take a lightning strike to a home and survive long enough to redirect the initial harmful blast... while a 200 joule device burns out almost immediately and the continued surge tears into your electronics
** if you have a SURGE and the protector survives... remove it immediately as in rare cases they can survive, the components inside that PROTECT against surges have already burnt out. Meaning next time you get a surge it will just zap your electronics **
The reason why I love cyberpower products is because they actually stand by their warranty. If you have a surge (and can prove the surge) they will give you fair market value for the devices (usually 50% of face value since the stuff was used) better than getting nothing. I had a major surge hit my house when the main power line to my house failed (most homes have 2, 110volt lines going to your house.. one of mine literally exploded underground due to the power company failing to perform routine maintenance in the area) It caused half my house to pretty much surge out of control. Any device not hooked up to a surge protector was instantly toast. Only stuff that survived was stuff hooked up to my two cyberpower surge protectors. After witnessing just how invaluable surge protectors/suppressors are I've got everything on surge protectors now! And try my best to convince my relatives and friends that a "power strip" doesn't have a high enough Joule rating to protect you from a "major" surge.
Anyhow to sum it up Cyberpower is the company you want to deal with
1. They actually do back up their warranty claims 100% (other reviews here even confirm that)
2. Their products are top notch and don't cost much at all. Many other brands you are paying simply for "name"
3. High ratings and good placement of the plugs (3+ transformer ports)
4. Indicator lights which basically are used as "test" lights. As long as the lights remain on you are protected. If the "surge" light is off... the device is not functioning as a surge protector anymore.. if the "ground" light is off.. the outlet you are plugged into is NOT GROUNDED (very bad).
Wonderful product that is lightweight, cheap, quality and can last for years (I have 2 cyberpower 880's that are going on 5yrs now still in perfect working order because thankfully no surges)
Some added specs on this model Surge Protector
Built in 15amp breaker
response time: Less than 1ns (nanosecond)
surge suppression of 6,000 volts and up to 90,000 amps (most lightning bolts are 5,000 - 20,000 amps so this baby can actually suppress a small lightning strike)
*** This device will not protect you against a BROWN-OUT you will need a special UPS (uninterrupted power supply). Cyberpower actually is one of the few companies out there which produce UPS devices that have built in brownout protection. They are actually surge protectors + battery backup in one with ultra fast response times

The unit is solidly built and looks great from the outside. However, once I had the unit installed, it was reporting input voltage ranges from 60v to 170v, but generally averaged about 117v. I checked the line and never saw any such drops or spikes in line voltage; the actual line voltage was running at 119v to 121v consistently. When I pulled the plug to test the battery, the unit immediately showed an output voltage of 120v (as expected)... but as I continued to monitor the UPS, the output voltage on battery jumped from 71v to 160v over a 30-second span of time. I suspect that the firmware in the UPS used to monitor and calculate line voltages is faulty, but for a unit that offers automatic voltage regulation, accurate reporting is important. The UPS was returned as defective.

Apc G5Blk 9-Outlet G-Type Rack-Mountable Power Conditioner Review

Apc G5Blk 9-Outlet G-Type Rack-Mountable Power Conditioner

These APC G5 units are the best you can do without spending at least twice as much. I needed 2 of them, since my equipment occupies 2 different corners of the room and I didnt want to spend a lot. No one else offers this kind of quality and feature set for this price.
They come with rack mounts intalled - just unscrew them and take them off if you are putting them on shelves like me. Then screw on the padded feet.
They give you plenty of outlets and great protection from surges, and adjustable limits on voltage to shut everything down so they dont continue to receive under or overvoltage. The time delayed outlets can be adjusted from 1-60 seconds. The LEDs can be turned off, the LCD cannot - however it can be set to a pretty low brightness so it isnt a huge problem. The unit does not make any noise.
Check out the thread at Audioholics Home Theater Forums.
I dock this item slightly for not allowing turning off of the LCD screen and for not spacing any of the outlets for larger plugs such as transformers. If you have any of those, you'll end up using 2 outlets worth of space. For the design goals and price point though, it isnt enough to keep this from earning a high mark. Id give it a 4.5 out of 5.

"You can start shooting the minute you pull the a544 by Polaroid out of the box."
Um... yeah, but what you're shooting is likely to be really fuzzy. The shutter speed is slower than expected, leaving the unit particularly prone to jitter. The zoom is awkward to use and nowhere near as useful as you'd think. It also had some unexpected 'quirks', like the unit blanking the memory card when you unhook it from your computer whether you'd copied the files off or not. The red-eye correction is a joke.
This unit was bought for my niece for a photography course she's taking in high school. As such, it meets the requirements, but it's simply not a unit that'll have a lot of usefulness after the course is over. I honestly expected more, and was disappointed in this unit. It's cute, but cute doesn't cut it.

GE A1050-BK 10MP Digital Camera with 5X Optical Zoom and 2.5 Inch LCD with Auto Brightness- Black Review

GE A1050-BK 10MP Digital Camera with 5X Optical Zoom and 2.5 Inch LCD with Auto Brightness- Black
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I happened across this camera while searching for a small P&S camera that I could take anywhere. There are times a cell phone camera cannot do the job properly. Having used this camera for 4 months and taken several thousand pictures, here is what I have experienced:
Good:
* 2 AA battery power -- if they die, obtaining suitable replacements is very easy.
* Using AA NiMH batteries -- I get about 250 pictures per set of 2,300 mAh batteries.
* 10.1 MP sensor - 4:3 is default resolution ratio, but it has the capability of shooting 3:2 (at 9 MP size).
* 1/2.33" CCD sensor - quite standard
* 5X optical zoom - Equivalent to 35 MM to 175 MM.
* Macro mode with focus down to 3"
* Live histogram, but has to be turned on each time the camera is powered up
* SD and SDHC card capacity - I've used up to a 4 GB SDHC card with no problems.
* Mini-USB cable (nonstandard) connection for picture transfer.
* Three light meter modes -- Spot, center weighted and AiAE (a complex full frame evaluation mode).
The Bad:
* Close distance flash shots wash out the subject -- metering of the flash is bad.
* Transferring more than 50 pictures at a time via USB cable will cause the camera to crash.
* A rectangular shutter button that is a bit stiff to operate at times.
* Spot metering tends to wash out pictures. The best mode is AiAE (complex metering)
* The histogram cannot be programed to remain on all the time
* EV setting is a bit tedious -- the effect takes once the EV choice has turned off. It must be restarted each time you want to make an exposure adjustment
* The LCD lighting on auto mode tends to show the preview exposure too dark, when, in fact, the exposure is quite good.
* Awkward placement of the zoom rocker switch
* Framing grid lines are a mid-gray color and are hard to see in sunny conditions. No provision to change the color.
I wrote Customer Service regarding the histogram and grid line issues. Within 24 hours, they responded. There is no provision to change the default programing of features on this camera. They suggested a firmware update, but for this model, GE posted Version 1.10 on the support website. I have Version 1.11 on my camera.
My real test was on a cross-country trip this past April, where I took this camera, a Canon A590 and a Fujifilm S100FS. The pictures taken with the GE were sharp and clear, when they were outside and in AiAE metering mode. Taking pictures in landscape mode was a mixed bag - greens were overblown and reds were suppressed.
Also, this is an economical P&S camera. Don't expect perfect live action shots, unless you crank up the ISO speed to the point the pictures are all grainy. I learned to keep this camera at ISO 100 for the vast majority of my pictures. There is an automatic scene detection mode that works, but it too is a mixed bag. I've shot outdoor pictures of plants in bright sunlight and had the camera turn on the flash as if it was in Sunset mode and backlit subject. Go figure.
Facial recognition works good for this price camera. Two faces are easily recognized. When taking flash pictures of people, be careful. If you are too close, the flash will wash out the persons face. The metering system and the flash output appear to be separate, so there is no TTL metering of the flash to limit the flash output. Also. red eye reduction shooting fires 4 times before the image is captured. The subjects (especially small children) close their eyes and you get a blink picture. Children mode completely suppresses the flash altogether.
The long and the short of it, I found the best mode to shoot in was pure manual mode, where I can set everything (with the aid of the histogram) in AiAE metering mode to capture the correct exposure. It worked just fine with good tonal reproduction in the final product. I'm posting some sample pictures with this review. They represent a cross section of my experiences.
CS is responsive, unlike other companies out there. Build quality is good, but don't expect it to hold up to pure torture. Overall, for the price I paid, the features and the picture quality, I happened upon a good camera.
*****
11/19/2010 - Update
I have used this camera now for just over 7 months and have taken about 3,000 pictures. If you work with this camera in manual mode with white balance and the histogram to set the exposure, you get some really good results.
Battery life is great, even when using the flash. The NiMH "AA" batteries I have nets me about 300 pictures per set of two, more than enough for a decent day's shoot.
The only real complaint I have is with the Auto Focus -- if you push this camera, especially when it is really bright outside, the AF will not set properly. You have to wait for the on-screen focus indicator to turn green before you take the picture, or it will be blurred. This camera fires as soon as the shutter is fully depressed regardless of focus.

APC Smart-UPS SMT1500 1500VA 120V LCD UPS System Review

APC Smart-UPS SMT1500 1500VA 120V LCD UPS System
Average Reviews:

Purchased this unit a month ago and out of curiosity I connected it through a power meter. The power consumption with no load and batteries at 100% charged is 1.25 Amps. With my IMac plugged in the consumption is at 2.4 Amps. I've owned several APC units before and the no-load current for the trickle charger was about 0.2 Amps. Answers from APC were responsive but unclear as to why this inefficient unit was designed to consume 130 watts with no useful work being done. Also, the fan runs most of the time even though the battery indicator on the display show the charge is at 100% which would seem to make cooling unnecessary. While APC does design some great hardware, in this age of energy efficiency this unit is going in the wrong direction.

Olympus Stylus 6000 10MP Digital Camera with 3.6x Wide Angle Optical Dual Image Stabilized Zoom and 2.7-inch LCD (Yellow) Review

Olympus Stylus 6000 10MP Digital Camera with 3.6x Wide Angle Optical Dual Image Stabilized Zoom and 2.7-inch LCD (Yellow)

The Stylus Tough 6000 is the second Olympus waterproof camera I've got. I got the original 720SW, it survived quite a few adventures and continues its faithful service with a friend. I was ready for an upgrade.
There were two main reasons I upgraded from the 720sw. One was the wide angle lens 28mm vs 35-38mm on it. The other was hopefully longer battery life. I found the 720sw's battery life to be anemic at best.
I considered the 1030sw but decided to try out the new generation of sensor, CCD image stabilization and tap control. The Stylus Tough 8000 was also a contender but I didn't need the extra hardened casing or expense. This has the same rating as the 720SW which survived everything I threw at it and now comes in three attractive colors. I got the blue one.
Overview
Pulling the camera out of the box and playing with it there were several notable improvements over the previous generation. It's not quite as heavy and uses more plastics than the 720SW, more similar to the 760SW. The lens has a larger more reinforced housing probably to accommodate the wider angle.
The buttons have been improved. They stick out more from the surface and have a very positive "click" to them. There is much more clearance with the shutter release which is nice. Your less likely to turn the thing off instead of trying to take a picture.
There is the welcome addition of the control wheel. It is quick access to major features. Starting from the blue triangle (play) and going clockwise you have:
iAuto - Intelligent auto, camera attempts to guess what scene mode (if any) to use or just use the automatic modes.
The picture of the camera (which might be mistaken for play) is now the traditional automatic mode which oddly enough gives you more controls (like the tap control).
SCN - Lets you select from a variety of scene modes
Beauty Mode - Takes longer to boot up, mainly used for portraits. Requires face detection to work properly. After you take the picture the camera spends about 10 seconds processing the image applying a smoothing and contrast routine to make skin look nicer.
Movie Mode is next and that brings us back to play.
The other buttons are pretty standard, looks like you have three ways to access your playback now. The play setting on the dial, the play button on the back and the tap control (more later).
The DISP button has been beefed up, you can now access basic shooting info (WB, FSTOP, Shutter speed), push it again and you get the histogram.
The screen is vastly improved. One of the real weak points on the 7xx series was the screen wasn't sharp. You could take a great picture but couldn't tell if it was sharp or not. This was especially maddening because you really didn't know before you took the shot what your shutter speed was so you didn't know if it was just the screen or really a blurry picture. With the new screen its much better. For a bonus your shutter speed and Fstop get flashed when you do the focus lock.
Tap Tap
Something new is the Tap control. If not in iAuto mode you can change commands by tapping on the camera. Tapping on the left hand side brings up the macro options, macro, super macro or super lighted macro. I didn't think people did serious macro photography with sports cameras...
Tapping on the side again cycles through the settings. Double tapping saves the setting you have selected.
Tapping on the right lets you control the flash (auto, fill, none, redeye).
Tapping on the back lets you enter play mode which is cool. You can then tap left or right to scroll through your pictures. Tap the back again to get out of play mode. Very nice.
Easily accessing flash controls (to force a fill flash or cancel a flash for ambient only) and play by tapping is a excellent feature.
Going Diving
Not in the pool (though you could) but menu diving. Olympus has improved the menus to a degree. At the end of the day they are pretty much set up the same, they just now have pretty 3D icons and transitions between screens. On the old OLY you had the impression the processor was not current generation, now you have the impression they have CPU cycles to burn.
One area that is notably different is the panorama function. It now has its own icon in the main setup. There are several new options for shooting panos to have them combined in the camera as well as a new onscreen guide. When you use the new in camera 1 feature you get a dot and crosshairs to line up to guide your picture taking. In camera 2 and in PC modes still give you the old horizon and boxes as your guide.
Get your Light On
A nice feature is the inclusion of the LED flashlight. If you hold down the display button for a few seconds it kicks on a LED light about the same as keychain lights. It runs for around 20-30 seconds. Once on its not that easy to turn off, you have to hold the button a few seconds.
Shooting performance
Shooting performance seems to be improved. It locks onto targets faster (but still not as fast as others). The face lock is now integrated so it automatically detects and focuses for faces. Even has a smile detector where it won't fire till it gets a smile.
Image quality aside from adding a few megapixels in resolution (no big deal) is improved. Images are sharper, noise is better controlled (key for small cameras). Seems to have a bit more dynamic range in the photos.
It is a noticeable improvement, even in good light. So the answer of "will this let me take better pictures than my old 7xx?" is "Yes".
It's got a wide variety of ISO settings and resolutions (10MP, 5MP, 3MP, 2MP). Not all ISO's and resolutions are available in each mode. The high ISO modes have reduced resolution which is fine.
The CCD shift image stabilization gives you better performance than just the ISO boost. It's still not magic but it does compensate some for hand tremors.
If taking the finest pictures possible with a compact camera is your goal then this probably isn't the camera for you. There are cheaper/better/faster cameras out there. Its faster than previous generations but still pretty slow in starting up, locking onto the target and refreshing after the shot. This is one of the complains people have about point and shoot cameras and this camera is no exception. My 2+ year old Fuji F-40 blows it away in all speed departments.
The main reason you would buy this camera remains its toughness and versatility. If you need the go anywhere, do anything and not worry about it camera this is the one for you. I used mine biking, Kayaking, at the beach, climbing, hiking, swimming and in monsoon rains in SE Asia and its still works great. I expect this to be the same.
Video
Video performance has been improved to a good degree. The old camera often washed out in light and had a magenta cast to it. it was also limited to 15fps. Gave an old home movies quality to the video.
The improved sensor on this camera gives much better video qualtiy, you also now have the option for 15fps. But there is a catch. Unless you have a type M+ XD card at full resolution (640x320) and 30fps your limited to 30 seconds of video. Anything other than full rez full motion will give you as much recording time as the card. However the compression routine they use is not as efficient as others. Compared to a Fuji I use it takes twice as much space for the same quality.
Accessories
One area of unexpected improvement was the manual. The layout and whatnot is pretty much the same but they have separate manuals for different languages. Not an all in one.
Alas when it comes to cables they have still yet to grow a brain. The video out and USB cables that plug into it have a proprietary tip on them, so don't loose it. If your smart get a card reader for file transfer. Much faster and easier on the camera.
The media used still only half a brain. It primarily uses the XD format which is slow, small and expensive compared to other types. With an adapter (not included) you can use the Micro SD cards from your cell phone, if you remembered the tweezers...
Why they couldn't take regular SD cards + XD Cards like Fuji can I don't know.
It uses the Li-50B which is a bit thicker than the Li-42 of the previous series. Claimed battery life is at least 1/3 greater. My initial observations are that you'll get somewhere around 200 shots/charge in mixed use (some screen, some playing some flash). This is a lot better than the 7xx.
So in summary
PRO's
Waterproof/Dust Proof/Freeze and shock and sand resistant.
Significant User interface improvements from previous generations
Tap Control
Better screen
LED flashlight
Better Image quality and stabilization than previous generations
Cons
Image quality/performance/speed not up to other cameras at the same price point.
xD/MicroSD cards only
proprietary cables.
Conclusion
My conclusion on this one is the same as the last. If you want a decent picture taker that you can take pictures anywhere with this is an excellent choice. The years have made some good improvements that reduced the previous generations shortcomings. A worthy upgrade if you can use some of the new features and an excellent buy if your getting this type of camera for the first time.
UPDATE 8-29-09
The camera has survived a summer of swimming. It was constantly in the water for several hours a day, several days each week. It got dunked, dropped, scraped, stepped on and slidden over. It survived tubing trips as well as visits to Seaworld...Read more›

I was a bit skeptical about getting this because it had no reviews. I purchased this for my one year old daughter. I like the fact that it could flip all the way around and down flat where she is not able to press the buttons while watching a show. I also like the fact that the edges are rounded as to pointy, the price was also a selling point for me. Only had it for bout a week, but great product so far.
