I love the Silicon Rubber Skin for my Kindle 2. It is exactly what I expected. It is easy to hold and will protect my Kindle 2 around the house.
The Anti Scratch Screen Protector is a joke however. It came with stickers attached to it that left sticky debris on the lens. Thank goodness they were 'free'.

Apple Mini DisplayPort to VGA Adapter MB572Z/A (Retail Packaging) Review

Apple Mini DisplayPort to VGA Adapter MB572Z/A (Retail Packaging)
Average Reviews:

My home display uses DVI (which is a far more modern standard than VGA), but I often need this adapter for running presentations. Other reviewers have complained about several problems with this adapter. However, Apple recently released a firmware update, which you can download at http://support.apple.com/downloads/_Mini_DisplayPort_to_VGA_Firmware_Update and run (you must have the adapter plugged in and connected to a display) to solve everything. After that, it should work perfectly.

SVAT CLEARVU11 All-In-One Web Ready 4 Channel Compact H.264 DVR Security System with 15” LCD Screen and 4 Indoor/Outdoor Night Vision Surveillance Cameras Review

SVAT CLEARVU11 All-In-One Web Ready 4 Channel Compact H.264 DVR Security System with 15and#8221; LCD Screen and 4 Indoor/Outdoor Night Vision Surveillance Cameras
Average Reviews:

I purchased the Clearvu11 system about a month ago for use at my home. I know I should keep it short but since mine is the first review here, I thought I that I will give a little more detail than if I wasn't the first one.
Overall, I really like the system. Here are my reasons for buying it and some pros and cons:
Reasons for purchasings this system over another:
1. Email notifications when motion detected.
2. Video viewable over the internet for remote monitoring. My wife watches our kids come home from school while she is in the office. Pretty cool!
3. Video viewable over cell phones and iPhone although this turned out to be still photos. This information was not clear to me during my research.
Pros:
1. Steps to viewing the system over the internet were complete so that I did not have to fill in any gaps in the instructions.
2. Enabled to be viewed over cell phones with a connection to the internet. It is only formatted for a WAP display not the iPhone (ie, very small picture in browser).
3. Tech support is available 24-7 for system setup. The team that handles internet setup was not available outside of normal business hours though.
4. The system alerts you whenever motion is detected and sends out email alerts and audible ones from the monitor if you choose.
5. Everything is intergrated into the display.
6. Setup instructions were clear and complete although slightly complex (but I like a complex challenge). Cons:
1. System setup interface is tolerable to use but difficult at times because a keyboard cannot be connected to it.
2. System setup was somewhat complex due to the interface.
3. Insects activate the motion detection at night and send me hundreds of emails. I can't lower the motion detection sensitivity enough to stop this problem and keep detecting people movement. Tech support couldn't resolve this problem either and said it is trial and error to resolve it. The email problem was solved by setting up a seperate email address for motion alerts and low limits for the number of emails going to my iPhone.
4. Viewing the system on my iPhone is poor. The pictures sent are too small for my iPhone and I have to enlarge it everytime in my browser. This would be okay but I can have it update the picture every few seconds and it gets downsized each time rendering this option useless on my phone. I'd love to see an App developed by SVAT to allow me to view live video over the internet instead of the poor interface they offer me now.
5. Color settings on the system do not allow me to adjust colors correctly. My trees and yard look light purple on the screen when they are actually green. I have not covered this issue with tech support yet so maybe their is a solution I am missing.
6. While it was clearly labeled in the sales literature, the IR only covers about 15 ft at night which is not a lot for covering the front and sides of a house. I would like to see SVAT offer some low cost add on IR flood lights that are well under $50/pc.

Cyberpower CP1200AVR UPS - 1200VA/720W AVR 8-Outlet RJ11/RJ45/Coax Tower EMI/RFI USB/Serial Review

Cyberpower CP1200AVR UPS - 1200VA/720W AVR 8-Outlet RJ11/RJ45/Coax Tower EMI/RFI USB/Serial
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Bought two of these UPS from Best Buy 2 years ago for pretty cheap. We have been living in an area that likes to see electrical flickers and outages. Since I run my own photo/video and other media company from home, I was concerned of losing data from power outages.
Ever since we've had these UPS, we've never had to concern ourselves with when and if the power flickers or goes out again. The device keeps everything regulated perfectly.
Even at peak usage (1 x 250gb external HD, 1 x 1TB external HD, 1 x Dell XPS computer, 21" wide screen monitor) the backup gives me about 8 minutes of time before it runs out of juice. I have it set to automatically shutdown my pc when 5 minutes of battery time is remaining so that if i'm not there, it'll handle the outage as intended.
You definately know when you're running off of the battery backup as it beeps every 5 seconds or so and you can hear it's internal fans running. But when not running on battery backup, you never know it's there.
Excellent back up that provides enough battery for someone with multiple periphials connected and makes working through uncertain power flickers go on without a hitch.

Supersonic SC491 / SC-491 / SC-491 7 Portable LCD/DVD Combination Review

Average Reviews:

Update, May 14, 2010:
I finally used the other antenna since this unit was not being moved around but just left on my desk all the time. This antenna has a magnetic base and I have it "stuck" onto a small flat metal box which I filled with coins so it serves as a heavy base for the antenna. The magnet is very strong so the antenna stays firmly in place. I am so glad I finally switched to this antenna - it provides much better reception and I get so many more channels (including the digital sub-channels). Additionally, there's no need to adjust or move the antenna at all. It remains in one place throughout the whole channel spectrum, from low to high! I actually counted the channels I received-72 in all, and that is not counting the weak channels! By the way, I do not have cable.I have had this product for only about a week and I am very pleased with it. If it lasts me at least a year, I will be happy. I owned a Coby portable 7-inch DVD player and it lasted me through only about three DVDs. It just died on me after using it only a few times. I have used this Supersonic player daily so far and it has held up. The manual is not very well-written but this is a simple machine so common-sense and trial and error will serve you in good stead instead of being frustrated at the manual.
This Supersonic is truly a gem. I did plenty of research before buying. I researched the name brands like Sony, Panasonic, Philips, etc. but I think that this Supersonic beats all the brand names for value. I like that it is a TV and a DVD player. It looks very good and durable, not flimsy. It operates very steadily too, not flimsily. I was very surprised at its appearance when I opened the box. It looks like a high quality product. In fact, I think it is a high quality product, except that it is not a major brand name. The removable stand to which the unit attaches is very steady. It comes with two telescopic antenna. I have so far only used the one that attaches to the unit itself. The other appears to be a more cumbersome one that you can put on a table beside the unit and attach by wire to the unit. I don't know if this may be a stronger antenna in terms of reception, but the one that I use is good enough. I get all the major channels in my area except for one. I also get a multitude of smaller stations so I am "plenty pleased". You may need to adjust the antenna as you move across the channel spectrum. For example, I find that I can get channels 2 through 9 and sometimes through channel 11 without moving the antenna, but as I go higher up the channel spectrum I have to adjust the antenna.
The picture quality is very good, even though it is not HD. For a 7-inch set, it does not matter if it is not HD. So far, I use it to watch TV at home when I do not want to use my big-screen, to save electricity. It is to watch programs when I am not really watching, if you know what I mean. It is for those times when I want the TV on when I am doing other things like working on the computer, surfing the net, etc. By the way, the TV has to be stationary to operate. So if you want to watch TV on a car trip, it will not work. But you can watch TV when you stop for a break. When the car is moving, use the DVD player.
The battery takes about three hours to charge and a fully charged battery lasts about two hours. This is comparable to most portable units in the market, though I would prefer a longer-lasting battery. But for my purposes, two hours is okay.
It comes with a car plug too, though I don't know if it will charge or if it is for you to operate the unit using the car's battery. I have not used it. I have read that some car plugs do not charge the battery but only allow you to operate the unit. A word of warning - there is hardly any indication or warning that the battery is about to run out, i.e. the screen does not gradually get darker as the battery weakens, and no warning icon pops up. The unit just goes dark suddenly when the battery is exhausted. This does not bother me because I know the battery will last about 2 hours whether I am watching TV or a DVD so I just anticipate it happening. Furthermore, I am using it at home so I can just plug in the power if I am going to use it for longer than two hours.
And I like it that the DVD player is region-free. I have many foreign DVDs that won't play on my Sony blu-ray player or Panasonic DVD player but this Supersonic will play them. It plays VCDs too. And it has a timer. You can set it and it will turn off if you fall asleep watching TV. And if you are still awake, the screen will warn you and you can reset the timer or turn the timer off.
The remote allows you to control many functions including volume, closed- captioning, sleep timer and TV channel. Closed-captioning is good because I suspect that if one were to use this unit outside or in an area with a lot of ambient noise like an airport (without earphones plugged in), the volume may be insufficient for one to hear clearly. Incidentally, it has only one ear-phone plug and the ear phone does not come with the unit.
The TV also has a program guide that can tell you what is showing on each channel up to about 9 hours ahead. Besides the title of the TV program showing and its duration, the program guide also includes a synopsis of the current program showing or that which will be showing later. Just press the right arrow to advance the program guide. I have not had to use any of the control buttons located on the unit itself, whether watching TV or playing a DVD, except for the power switch. Even then, one does not necessarily have to power it off using this switch, as the remote has a standby button to turn the unit off and put it in standby mode. I have only had the time to watch one DVD on this unit and experienced no problems doing so. However I use it everyday when I just want the TV on even if I am not really watching. After watching a DVD and the unit is turned off, it reverts to TV mode the next time you turn it on.
Some may not like the front-loading DVD, but this design suits me better than the clamshell design of most portable DVD players in the market. This front-loading design may not be suitable for young children to operate (and there is no protection for the screen when moving it around or traveling), but I think if supervised by adults initially and once they get used to it, it should not be a problem. I place one hand behind the unit on the lower portion when I press the unit in the front to open or close the DVD loading door. It is quite tight so you will need to push quite hard and support the back when you push. For me, this non-clamshell design is great because it saves space. I place it on my desk when I work on the computer or surf the net and I can imagine many might find this design perfect for use in the kitchen.
I have Sony products that don't measure up to cheaper no-name brands. And I think this no-name Supersonic can stand proud beside the major brand names.
If you are a brand name snob, don't buy this unit. But if you truly know electronics and appreciate electronics, then you should give this product a try. You should be able to get it for about $125.00 total (i.e. including shipping charges). If you find it cheaper, good for you!

Panasonic SDR-S50K Std-Def SD Camcorder with 78X Zoom & Wide angle Lens (Black) Review

Panasonic SDR-S50K Std-Def SD Camcorder with 78X Zoom and Wide angle Lens (Black)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Just bought the Panasonic SDR-S50 (black) for our daughter. The camera is very similar to the SDR-H60 that we have for ourselves, but is is lighter, has 50% better zoom, and only runs on SD cards. SD cards can hold more than enough video unless you are shooting an single 60 minute shot. I prefer using SD cards over the hard disc on our SDR-H60 because transfer to the laptop is much simpler with no hardware or cables. Just remove the SD card from the camcorder and insert into laptop. The SDR-S50 comes with Panasonic VideoCam Suite 3.0 which make it simple to upload to PC, Record directly to your DVD, or simple to upload to YOUTUBE. The only downside to this camera is that if you wish to upload to YOUTUBE using the simple YOUTUBE wizard in the software, you MUST REMEMBER to switch your video recording setup to WEB MODE every time you turn the camera power on. The WEB MODE recording gets reset when the camera is turned off. You can still upload to YOUTUBE, but not with the YOUTUBE wizard. Other than that we are extremely pleased with the SDR-S50. Note, don't fool yourself... if you think the 78x zoom will not be useful to you in your recordings, you are wrong. If you buy a camera without great zoom, then you find yourself looking for a new camera with better zoom! Panasonic also has the best OIS (optical image stablization)to take the jitter out of your zooms.

Coby TFDVD7052 7-Inch Portable Tablet DVD/CD/MP3 Player (Black) Review

Coby TFDVD7052 7-Inch Portable Tablet DVD/CD/MP3 Player (Black)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
We have owned quite a few portable DVD players. Normally, we use them on trips for the children. On this last trip, we decided to splurge on these Coby tablet DVD players.
The DVD players fit into sleeves, which have cutouts for the screen and controls. Buckle straps attach the sleeves to the headrests. This is an easier process than attaching standard DVD cases to headrests. The sleeve design makes it more difficult for the children to access the DVD's in the player -- a positive, if your children are very young but a negative, if you have slightly older children who would normally be able to change the DVD on their own. It's not impossible to do, just inconvenient.
The player can be controlled from buttons on the front, but it's easier to do with the included remote (which comes with batteries). Volume must be controlled via a wheel on on the side of the player.
Picture quality is very good, rich and vibrant, even when viewing from different angles.
Sound is fine at home. In the car, the sound can sometimes be drowned out by the white noise of the road and other background noise. Headphone jacks and earphones are included. Sound quality through headphones is excellent.
The back of the DVD player has a pull-out stand, in case you want to set it on the table for viewing. We tried that and it worked very well.
The DVD player has a battery so it can be played without the need for an outlet. It also comes with plugs for the wall and car outlets.
So far, so good. We are very happy with our choice and would buy these players all over again.
PROS:
+ case straps easily to headrest
+ includes remote with batteries
+ includes earphones
+ picture quality is very good
+ includes stand
+ comes with AC and DC power cords
CONS:
- inconvenient to change DVD's when mounted on headrest
- sound can be drowned out by the noise in the car

Naxa NCDA-694 3-Inch LCD Display Full Fold Down Detachable PLL Electronic Tuning Stereo AM/FM Radio Multimedia Player with Aux-in Jack and Bluetooth
Average Reviews:

I got this player with just one thought in mind - I wouldn't get any other piece with all these features at this price - $60 shipped.
I would say it was more of a gamble since all the internet or the NAXA website offers about this player is a 18 line feature list and a sinlge image - that of the face plat you see on this page too.
Even the dimensions etc were not mentioned. I did not even know if it will fit my car.
I got this yesterday, fitted it myself and I must say, by the experience of about one day, this piece rocks, simply rocks. It makes my old speakers - a 4 point system just sound so so better than my old Pioneer car deck. I had almost decided to replace my speaker system. This player of $60 saved me that costly and almost going-to-be-disappointing speaker upgrade that would have costed my hundreds more.
Following are the features I have tried till now:
> Bluetooth:
Once paired, this player automatically connects to your phone every time you start your car. Seamless - no manual connection. Important here is my observation that your player must be turned on after your phone already has Bluetooth turned on. You can let the phone be connected all the time and still use other features like Radio, USB etc. Just when you get a call or you begin song playback on the phone, the player automatically switches to Bluetooth input and again - no switching/setting needed - and as I said, the sound is well above average quality if not the best. When on a call the audio is very clear on your side and on the other end, though you need to talk just a bit loud to be heard, it manages to catch your voice pretty well ignoring most of the engine noise. What I loved here is the clear and big enough display of the calling/being called number on the screen. What else are screen for eh?
> Radio:
Pretty much all the standard features and again well above average sound quality. I can feel the bass in my car body and that too with my stock door speakers and my old Pioneer speakers in the rear. More than just good enough for me.
> USB/CD/Card
Again, the sound quality is the same as well as the Volume level as in other modes already described above. Settings in this mode, just as other modes include - Volume, Balance, FAD and Equalizer (Custom not supported due to some reason. Miss this one, but built in modes give very good range of options)
> AUX In:
Same sound quality and settings available here too. No complaints. Shows whether you are providing an input or it is open, nothing else.
All in all, with my one day experience, I couldn't be more excited about a product that I bought with so much unsurity and doubt. Good job by the guys at NAXA.

I recently bought an Ipod touch and noticed right away that the silver back scratches almost instantly, and the fingerprints are all over it...it is so thin, I just didn't feel like it had any protection if dropped. I ordered this from Bargain Cell, Ive ordered alot of cell phone accessories from them and they have always been high quality. this came with a silicone black cover, 2 screen protectors, a home outlet charger, a CAR CHARGER, earbuds, and a black armband to use for working out. It was very affordable, and everything was very nice and works well together...I recommend this product for anyone with an Ipod touch 2nd generation...it has everything you need for your ipod touch!

Panasonic Lumix DMC-ZS6 12.1 MP Digital Camera with 12x Optical Image Stabilized Zoom Lens & 3-Inch LCD Monitor Review

Panasonic Lumix DMC-ZS6 12.1 MP Digital Camera with 12x Optical Image Stabilized Zoom Lens and 3-Inch LCD Monitor

Panasonic makes the best compact superzoom cameras! Here's why. I was a professional photographer for over twenty years and recently sold all my professional film cameras (35mm, 21/4"x 23/4" and 4" x 5"). I've been searching for a compact superzoom camera that I can keep with me at all times to catch those once-in-a-lifetime shots without the expense or weight of a Digital Single Lens Reflex (DSLR) camera. Keep in mind that a compact superzoom has a smaller imaging sensor and will never truly compete with a high quality DSLR but if you want the best camera available in the compact point-and-shoot category then Panasonic DMC-Z series of cameras wins hands down. I've conducted an exhaustive search of camera review sites and have found Panasonic to consistently meet my standards of excellence. You don't have to take my words for it, you can check out my claims for yourself at the digitalcamerareview and dpreview web sites.
OPTICS:
The heart of any camera is the lens. Nothing else in photography counts without good optics. Panasonic uses Leica DC Vario-Elmar lenses in many of their cameras. Amongst professional photographers Leica has a reputation for quality akin to Rolls Royce. Leica appears to have maintained their reputation in Panasonic cameras by avoiding significant optical flaws. Most superzoom camera optics suffer from multiple flaws. Two optical flaws that I find completely unacceptable are chromatic aberration and uneven or soft focus.
You'll see chromatic aberration as a color fringe (red on one edge and blue or green on the opposite edge) along the edge of an object. It's often most visible near the corner of the image and along the edges of high contrast subjects like a dark car in front of a bright building. Sometimes chromatic aberration is so bad that it can be see in the center of a 4" x 6" photo but it's most often only visible when enlarged to full screen on a 17" or larger monitor. In my opinion, when it comes to chromatic aberration, Panasonic consistently out performs all competitors including Nikon, Canon, Olympus and Sony. I strongly suggest you see this for yourself by looking at web reviews that have full resolution images. Click on the full resolution image, zoom in and scroll from corner to corner and you'll see what I mean.
The second major optical concern is focus. Some camera lenses are sharp in the center of the photo but go slightly out of focus towards the edge of the photo. This usually isn't a problem if you are only going to use your multi-hundred dollar camera to make 4" x 6" prints but soft focus can be a huge disappointment when making larger prints or viewing the photo as a full screen image. The Leica lenses on the Panasonic cameras appear to excel in the category of sharp focus. Again, I suggest you see for yourself by zooming in on full resolution images available from some web review sites.
Other optical concerns include barrel and pincushion, which describe how vertical and horizontal lines can be curved in the photograph even though they were straight in real life. Some barreling or pincushioning is inherent to every zoom and are usually only noticeable at the widest angle or strongest telephoto settings. This type of distortion can be so severe that it distracts the viewer from appreciating the subject of the photograph. Leica does a superb job of minimizing barreling and pincushioning to the point that I find this type of distortion within acceptable limits.
My final comment on the Panasonic DMC-Z series optics is that the wide-angle setting on the zoom lens is equivalent to a 25mm lens on a 35mm camera. In my experience, the wide-angle lens is the most important feature of a zoom lens. You can always crop an image to get the equivalent effect of a stronger telephoto (of course you'll lose some resolution) but there is no similar way to compensate for not having a wide enough lens. Sure you can paste images together using a panoramic mode but you wind up with a long narrow picture that's difficult to put in a frame. Plus, except for the latest top-of-the-line Sony, you can't paste a large group photo together because people will move between shots.
SENSOR:
If the heart of a digital camera is the lens then the soul is the imaging chip and the camera's internal image processing software. Panasonic excels in this area too. Again, I strongly suggest you see for yourself by zooming in on full resolution images available from some web review sites. Every digital camera has software that is designed to minimize the noise introduced into the image by the sensor. If noise reduction is too strong then details are lost and objects start to look like cartoon drawings. If noise reduction is too weak then smooth areas like blue sky or concrete look unnatural because they're covered with dots. Panasonic has managed to achieve a pleasing balance in this category.
CONCLUSION:
Finally, I'd like to mention that, for the most part, I don't care about what photo editing or cataloging software comes with a camera. There's plenty of great software available from third party vendors and if the camera is not capable of producing a quality image then the accompanying software is absolutely useless to me.
So the bottom line is that the Panasonic DMC-Z series has the best combination of lens & sensor/built-in image processing software of any of the point-and-shoot cameras and is the most capable of producing an image that can stand up to being enlarged. Additionally, considering Costco has the Panasonic on sale this month along with their great return policy, I consider Panasonic a great buy.

The Panasonic Lumix DMC-ZS6 delivers 720p HD movie recording, 25mm ultra wide-angle and powerful 12x optical zoom lens in a compact body to cover virtually any shooting situation. This 12.1-megapixel powerhouse includes an abundance of features like Hi-speed AF, Power OIS for double the corrective power, providing crisp sharp images, Optical Image Stabilization, Intelligent Auto (iA) prevents blurring and provides intelligent ISO control, subject detection and AF tracking.25mm Ultra Wide-angle LensThe DMC-ZS6 features a 25mm ultra wide-angle 12x optical zoom f/3.3-4.9 Leica DC Vario-Elmar lens. Incorporating Panasonic's advanced optical technologies, this lens system is comprised of 10 elements in 8 groups, with 2 ED and 2 aspherical lenses / 3 aspherical surfaces. This lens system enables a remarkable 25 to 300mm range of focal length in a compact body. The 25mm ultra wide-angle lens has about twice the shooting area as a standard 35mm lens. This enhances shooting situations when you're photographing a group of people at a party or shooting a large structure or sweeping landscape while traveling.16x Intelligent Zoom/23.4x Extra Optical ZoomThanks to the newly designed Intelligent Resolution technology extends the zoom ratio by 1.3x while maintaining the picture quality even with digital zoom. This means the 12x optical can virtually extend to 16x equivalent. Furthermore, the Extra Optical Zoom function extends zoom power to 23.4x by using the center part of the large CCD to bring subjects even closer.Sonic Speed AFThe Sonic Speed AF system in the DMC-ZS6 includes numerous re-engineering enhancements, including a higher-speed actuator, optimized algorithms and parallel software processing. The result is fast and accurate AF performance. You can quickly get moving subjects in focus, such as when you're shooting sports scenes.

Very convenient shirt-pocket camera that produces pleasing images. Versatile and plenty of features for such a small package. Good enough to substitute for a Super Zoom on a casual day trip. Bought the camera while on vacation in the Caribbean, and never pulled out the D-SLR again. Good video, not bad indoors and in low light, and nice iA feature for immediate situations. Would like a bit more than the 5x zoom, but otherwise would buy it again.

I've had quite a number `point and shoot' digital cameras over the past decade-it seems I replace them about every three years. As a believer in the maxim, the best camera is the one you have with you, they have all been Canon Elphs But this time...I wanted more. One of the new compact designs with a big optical zoom, plus the wide angle lens. So it was natural that I picked out a Canon PowerShot SX200IS for an for a birthday trip to Italy. Glad I checked it out prior to departure - its form factor didn't really work for me ...A friend suggested the Lumix ZS1, which just happened to be on sale for $229 at Costco - a hundred dollars less than the Canon.
And I am so glad I made the exchange! The Lumix ZS1 delivers beyond all expectation. There was a point on the trip where I had a vision - imagine (if you go back to the 70's as I do) having an entire photographers bag - say a Nikon F, with a kit of Nikor lens say a 24mm perspective control, 50mm macro, a couple of zooms, multiple camera backs, the flash, the motor drive- in a package that fits in your shirt pocket. The last camera that blew me away like this was the Olympus XA (old school 35mm) which delivered amazing optics in a shirt pocket size.
Cutting to the chase:
Pros:
Unbelievable Leica lens. You can't imagine what a difference there is between 25 mm and 28 mm at the wide end. Imagine taking pictures of building facades and interiors as your eye sees them - and without distortion - extraordinary, and worth the decision to go with this camera alone. Even better - this lens works at all levels. This is by far the best the macro I've seen on a point and shoot, and the lens is solid all the way to 300mm equivalent - and yes, the image stabilization does really help - in old school terms, think light weight tripod with a very heavy long lens
Unbelievable Panasonic electronics. This has a very simple, yet incredibly rich feature set, all of which is useful, all of which delivers great, real world pictures, with as much real world manual control as you could want. For example - you can set the max ISO -which really gives you control over the F stop (since like most compact cameras there really isn't that much of a range) and shutter speed, there is a very convenient toggle button on the camera body to increase/decrease exposure (+/- 2 f stops), and the IA (Intelligent Auto) is the best auto setting I have ever worked with. You do have to read the manual, however, and play with the multiple settings to fully realize what Panasonic has delivered.
Great sensor. Images are very sharp below 400 ISO as others have noted. But ultra low light performance, is what is truly amazing. Think: extraordinary rendition of Giotto's frescos at the Basilica of St. Francis, tapestries at the Vatican, even the Sistene Chapel ceiling - settings where flash will not help or is not permitted - These demanded ISOs of up to 3200 - and the results look truly amazing - when printed, when projected.
Great build quality and ergonomic design. Part of what caused me to return the Canon - it simply didn't fit in my hand well, and the control layout was awkward. This one fits perfectly in the hand, and every control both on the body and in the menus is well placed, well conceived. And it not only feels solid, it looks solid, and that is comforting.

Cons (yes there are a few, but they are few)
The view finder is bright enough in many situations (be sure to turn on the `auto mode'). But there is no substitute for an optical viewfinder in a bright outdoor setting.
Proprietary download cable. Why not use universal mini-USB to USB like Canon does?
Average battery life. All that zooming of the lens barrel and digital wizardry means that this needs to be charged daily
No HD video. I find the widescreen VGA mode delivers very acceptable performance - and because it works with the optical zoom, actually looks sharper than the Canon HD at any zoom setting (Canon is digital zoom). But I think the ZS3's HD video will be even more awesome, and probably will end up being available for the same price point.

The Panasonic Lumix DMC-ZS1S features iA mode which automatically determines the most suitable Scene mode and helps correct blurring, focus and brightness problems. With iA mode, it's easy to get beautiful, clear results. In the ZS1, iA mode cannot be used when shooting motion images. The ZS1 packs a LEICA DC VARIO-ELMAR lens with 12x optical zoom into a compact body. This versatile photographic tool lets you shoot everything from sweeping vistas at the 25mm wide-angle setting to dynamic 300mm telephoto shots. And the lens system's exquisite rendering ability lets you capture even the subtle nuances of the sights and scenes in your travels.

Even though I purchased this item from Wal-Mart, I had to share my review here. I regularly check product reviews on Amazon in order to help me make purchasing decisions, so I thought it may be helpful to someone down the road if I put my two cents in on this unit even though I purchased elsewhere.
I had been looking for something to protect my new 50" plasma TV and Blu-ray player and I thought my best option was going to be overly priced Monster products. Sure, they have high-quality stuff, but you're paying as much for the name as you are the product. Enter the Cyberpower 1030HT. This was the perfect solution for me. Great price and even better specs. This is solidly built and has enough outlets for all but the most sophisticated home theater setups. The unit also scrubs incoming power to take out any interference which allows optimum performance from connected equipment. On top of that, it looks great sitting next to my other components. In addition, each outlet is labeled (monitor, receiver, DVD, etc.) which makes it a no-brainer when plugging in equipment. While you certainly don't have to follow these labels, it just makes life easier. Cyberpower also includes a sheet of cable labels which is nice feature, although I prefer and used the more detailed labels from another well-respected online electronics dealer.
I was pleasantly surprised at the beefiness of the unit's power cord (18 AWG), but at 8 feet long it proves a little unwieldy. Cyberpower does provide two velcro cable straps which helps to keep the power cord a little better organized. I can't speak to the included phone and network cables, but the coax cable is RG-59. Minor gripe, but I would have preferred a beefier RG-6 cable, and for the length provided it couldn't cost them that much more. You also really need to have enough shelf space to set this unit by itself. The top is curved and it's only a few inches deep, so nothing is going to sit on top; and the unit is about an inch wider than most home theater components which makes it look weird sitting on top of something. I prefer the look of unstacked components, but if you like the look of one component on top of the other this may not be the best item for you. And while you could hide this unit behind an audio tower or TV stand, it's really designed to sit next to other components and be shown off. It's too beefy to sit behind a stand.
I wholeheartedly recommend this product. It's among the least expensive out there to offer such an array of features. Put the extra money you would have spent on other brands towards movies or games, this is all you need for the ultimate protection of your prized home theater components.

It seems to me that any time you go into an electronics store that the accessories are where the stores profits are made. Just look at the prices on anything that says "Monster Cable" on it.
This product is no different, to run a coax cable over one door I had to buy three sets of these. Its as if the maker knew that if he only included 4 lengths of the product you'd be buying multiple sets to do any job. Therefore it looks inexpensive at first...................
