Terk Technology TV-1 Passive Indoor TV Antenna Review

Terk Technology TV-1 Passive Indoor TV Antenna

I honestly didn't think this antenna would work as well as it does. I bought it hoping I'd be able to watch local broadcast channels with only a few lines, instead of full-screen snow, and it actually gives me picture clarity equal to what I got with cable. The UHF antenna is supposed to plug directly into your tv (I think this assumes your tv was made a long time ago), which wasn't an option with my set, but it turns out I don't need it anyway; channels in the 50s and 60s come in just as well as lower ones. It's also a pretty small unit with a sort of retro 50s design, so it's not an eyesore. Great antenna, especially for the price!

Just got a new 73" DLP and wanted to be sure it was protected. Did a search and found very little in the way of products that offered both Surge, Clean power and UPS. This Belkin system seems to be a good unit (Only time will tell). It has enough power for my Yamaha Receiver, PS3, DVD player, Cable DVR box and My TV. Tried Plugging and un-pluggling the unit with all my equipment on and it held power for the 5 minutes I let it run on batteries. Both my son and I think that the picture looks better (less Noise) then before. The Unit looks good and dispite what others have reported, the Hum is very minimal and not noticable from 4 feet away. Amazon had a Great price (187.00) and free shipping. Even my wife says it looks good in the cabnet.
The only thing I wish they offered was a external Battery connection option for extended battery time.
Seems to be a great deal considering the Price. I was using a Monster power strip that I now use as a first line of defense by plugging the Belkin into it (Extra Surge Protection).

APC BACK-UPS RS BR1500 1500VA/865W UPS System Review

APC BACK-UPS RS BR1500 1500VA/865W UPS System
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This item is BR1500, which also called RS model vs. the BX1500 called XS models. External battery BR24BP can be used for both BR1500 and BX1500. The capability to connect external battery is great, since that can help reduce the downtime when California experiencing "rolling black" in the summer.
There are basically 2 differences between the Back-UPS RS(BR1500) and the Back-UPS XS (BX1500) models besides their names.1. The Back-UPS RS models have both 1-line 2-wire phone/fax/modem data-line protection and 10/100base-T ethernet protection, where as the Back-UPS XS models only has 1-line 2-wire phone/fax/modem protection.
2. The Back-UPS RS models have both Boost* and Trim** as features of Automatic Voltage Regulation (AVR), where as the Back-UPS XS only has Boost. When the input voltage increases above the high transfer point of a Back-UPS XS model it will only go to battery.*AVR Boost: The UPS is compensating for a low utility voltage. While the UPS can run in this mode indefinitely without any negative impact on the UPS, the circuit should be checked by a qualified electrician if the utility voltage is consistently low.
**AVR Trim: The UPS is compensating for a high utility voltage. While the UPS can run in this mode indefinitely without any negative impact on the UPS, the circuit should be checked by a qualified electrician if the utility voltage is consistently high.
BX1500 does not have the AVR trim feature, when AC line voltage is higher than spec, it will switch over the battery power till the line voltage drops into the spec range.
Please note this is called "backup UPS", not the "smart UPS" line. Backup UPS does not produce pure sine wave. When power lost, it will take some milli-seconds to switch over to battery power. "Smart-UPS" produces sine wave and the output AC was from DC source all the time. When AC input lost, the AC output will not have any interrupt.
For most computers, the "backup-UPS" is good enough, since the power supply inside PC always have capacitors that can hold for about 100MS or longer. When "backup-UPS" switched over in about 20MS, the computer will continue operates without much impact. But for A/V equipment, this may be an issue, especially the output is not pure sine wave. I would not recommend use this UPS for A/V equipment.

I own many APC UPSes, from the relatively high end (i.e., like this one) to the relatively 'normal' levels. All seem incredibly well built. Before buying a UPS understand why APC has these various offerings, and try to understand which you might need. I wouldn't want my more critical servers ideally on anything below the Smart UPS series (they tend to have a pure sine wave output, along with a much more tightly regulated output). The Backup Pro series is a minor step down from the Smart UPS, in that it sacrifices pure sine wave output. The Backup series (non-pro) still has a very nicely regulated output, but is not quite as tightly controlled as the Pro series (nor of course does it have pure sine wave output).
APC sells serious stuff, at all levels, for very real reasons.

Belkin PureAV Home Theater Battery Backup with AVR Technology Review

Belkin PureAV Home Theater Battery Backup with AVR Technology
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
As usual I looked everywhere for-and-at this unit, and when I found it on Amazon with Free Shipping (this is a heavy unit) I had to go for it. My main concern was: is this the unit with Ethernet protection? The specs say "yes" but the Customer Image of the rear panel doesn't show it. That pic is WRONG; the unit has RJ45 IN/OUT and the audio alarm rocker on it--it's indeed the latest model.
The total package is large, & heavy at 42lbs so a concern is always "howzit gonna survive shipping" and I was pleased to see it was TRIPLE-BOXED! Actually, an outer box with airbags, then the Belkin shipping box and finally the Retail packaging with the plastic handle & pretty pictures. Still, when I got it apart there were a few tiny scratches on the unit--a very heavy bag with rackmount ears in it had gotten unstuck from the cardboard and was flopping-around in the innermost box with the unit. But the pretty faceplate is covered with a heavy plastic protector so no worries there.
Like the other reviewer, I noticed the 60-cycle hum immediately when I plugged it in--my home theater is very quiet when everything's powered down. I don't expect the hum to be a problem when the TV is on, and my Belkin is 12 feet away at the front of the room in the TV stand, but I'm not sure I'd tolerate it very well if I were only listening to music (but I don't ever do that so it's not a concern for me) or if it were in my other equipment rack that's right behind my viewing position.
The battery was completely drained, and it needed an overnighter to charge-up to full capacity--testing reveals it hums quite a LOT when on battery power, but again this is not a concern for me--I don't want battery power to be able to keep watching; I want it to be able to shut-down my Rear Projection TV so the fan will keep running and cool the lamp first. I also wanted it for my DVR which has a spinning hard drive that needs protection.
Overall I am very pleased, and note the WAF on this is excellent (mine thought it was "pretty"!). A good deal indeed!

With modern home theater components incorporating items such as hard drives, microprocessors, and other delicate circuitry, you will want to protect your equipment from blackouts and power fluctuations that may cause irreparable harm. The Belkin PureAV Home Theater Battery Backup with AVR Technology maintains constant power delivery to your components to ensure that the memory, settings, and recordings on all your equipment will be saved in the event of a blackout, brownout, or other voltage fluctuation.
Uninterrupted Stable Power, Higher Performance As a defense against power outages, the PureAV Battery Backup provides uninterrupted backup power to DVRs, Media Center PCs, or any other devices you use in your home theater system. This battery backup unit is designed to preserve your system settings, such as recording times, or keep a hard drive from losing power while in the middle of use. The PureAV Battery Backup uses a 1200VA/640W battery to provide up to 40 minutes of battery backup power.
Unlike most battery backup units that switch to battery backup mode only when a power outage occurs, thereby leaving your system unprotected from constant voltage sags and surges, the PureAV Battery Backup uses proprietary Automatic Voltage Regulation (AVR) technology that constantly corrects for small voltage fluctuations. AVR technology ensures that you have stable and clean power to all of your equipment at all times. But when a power outage occurs, the PureAV Battery Backup switches to battery backup mode until power is restored or you are able to safely turn off your equipment, thereby saving your equipment from expensive, and possible fatal, damage.
Superior Protection The PureAV Battery Backup delivers stable clean power through eight surge protected outlets, six which are connect to battery backup. It offers 5,500 joules of surge protection and, in addition to AC power lines, it also protects coaxial-cable, pay-per-view/DSL/telephone, and broadband Ethernet (RJ45) lines. The PureAV Battery Backup also prevents electromagnetic and radio frequency interference from affecting your home theater system.
The Belkin PureAV Home Theater Battery Backup with AVR Technology is backed by a 3-year product warranty and $500,000 Connected Equipment Warranty.

Sony XDR-S3HD HD Radio Review

Sony XDR-S3HD HD Radio
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I've been searching for a HD radio that I could live with for some time now. I finally found one that is worth the money. Sony did so many things right with this radio that other manufacturers should take note.
It has a beautiful wood cabinate with a cloth speaker grill. The display is very legible and shows a wealth of information at a glance. The sound quality is top notch. It fills my bedroom with a warm inviting sound that I could listen to all day. The reception is above average, never drifting off station and never any static. It pulls in distant stations with ease and even pulls in AM stations well.
The menu system is the best of any HD radio that I have tried. Very intuitive and easy to master.
I have tried other HD radio's from Polk iSonic, Sangean and Boston Acoustics. I like this one the best out of all of them. The iSonic had more features and a slightly better sound but it's software was buggy and it often did strange things not to mention that it ran so hot you could fry an egg on it. The Sangean only had one control knob to navigate through the numerous menu options. It was cumbersome to operate and the bass was way too overbearing for my liking. The Boston was a good little radio that was primarily designed to be an alarm clock. The display didn't show much information and overall I didn't like it as well as the Sony.
The Sony does have one flaw. There is a cooling fan on the botton of the unit that I can hear. Sometimes it sounds like the bearing is bad. When it is running correctly all I hear is a slight fan noise. If it were on my night stand it would be irritating. To combat this problem I placed it across the room on my dresser. I just wonder how long the bearings will last in that fan......

I purchased one of these to replace my aged BR1000. I thought I would go up in capacity/runtime, and this unit is of identical form factor = no rearranging my desk. However the internals are different and this unit makes a very audible (not loud, but audible) hum from the charging circuit, whether on or off. I will be returning it and likely getting a battery for my BR1000, because the hum is going to drive me nuts.

APC BACK-UPS RS BR900 900VA/540W UPS System

The UPS works as advertised. I found the beeping when the UPS is providing power to be annoying, but you need to install the Windows control software in order to turn it off - the supplied MacOS software doesn't allow you to do that. I really like the USB interface provided to the computer, and I found that MacOS already has built-in support for UPSes that works with the BR900, so there's really reason to install the supplied MacOS software at all. In a desktop Mac, MacOS treats the UPS just like the built-in battery in a Powerbook laptop, which makes sense. The only other thing I don't like is the power supply in my iMac buzzes when the UPS is operational. It must be generating AC with square waves rather than sine waves, which is what you get from the power company.

Look at the third enlargeable image of the product on Amazon. Look at the white bar-code strip. In the last line it clearly reads DP/N 09364U. That is the part number for the 70 watt, 3.5 amp AC adapter. It is not interchangeable for the 6G356 which is a 90 watt, 4.5 amp product. The BIOS in the Dell latitude C840 detects the difference and sends a warning message when one attempts to use the 3.5 amp adapter. I don't necessarily blame the vendor. It sent the product shown in the photo. But the vendors and Amazon between them should have the expertise to eliminate this error in labelling. It cost me many valuable days.

We just bought this computer at a Sony Lifestyle store in the Burlington, MA mall and we are very happy with it.
First, I did not experience any excessive fan noise mentioned from the other reviewer. It is so quiet, we have to strain to hear it. My guess is that he has a defective computer.
The other reviewer also said the mouse was small and cheap. Yes its on the smaller side, but while thats perfect for my 4 and 11 yr old, its not so small that it bothers my wife or I. And what he interpreted as 'cheap' feels great to us as it's light and easy to move around.
Other things we love
- The monitor is as bright and sharp as my 18 month old 19" Mac Desktop, which to me is quit an achievement. The graphics are absolutely gorgeous.
- With Windows 7, 500gig hard drive and 4 megs of ram, this computer is lightening fast.
- Blue ray player is a nice touch
- Windows 7 gives me great control over my kids usage which my wife and I love. There is a learning curve from XP but the experience has been enjoyable and positive so far.
- Its sleek design was a great replacement for our 5 yr old desktop running XP. Takes up very little space
We love it and would buy it again in a flash.
------------------------------------------------------
Jan 1 update
1) Regarding another reviewer's complaint that it doesnt come with a Windows 7 disc to use in case of virus problems, etc, when I called the Sony store I bought this computer from, they were very helpful and explained that if you click on the "VAIO Care" icon on your task bar, among other useful options you will see a choice for "creating backup disc". It will burn the entire Windows 7 Operating system as well as all the programs the computer originally came with onto DVD. This is the disk you use if you ever need to reinstall Windows or any of the programs the computer came with.
2) This computer came with a 64 bit version of Windows 7 which while faster than a 32 bit operating system, does not work with many of my older programs that worked well on XP (which is 32 bit). Also does not work with my $600 Canon laser printer forcing me to go buy a new printer. Many software and hardware manufacturers have not yet, and may never, create drivers or updates to accomodate this new 64 bit operating system. You may want to make sure that your critical software and peripherals will work with this new version of Windows.
3) Another reviewer complained that he cant get high def graphics. He must not have his monitor set to the highest resolution as mine is set to 1680 x 1050 which exceeds 1080 high def resolution. Also, judging small monitors by TV standards is irrelevant because you dont need 1080 to get a high def picture on a monitor this small. 1080 is only needed for high def on screens 32" and larger

Sony VAIO Lifestyle VGN-P688E/Q 8-Inch Laptop - Black Review

Sony VAIO Lifestyle VGN-P688E/Q 8-Inch Laptop - Black
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Maybe I got a fluke, but Sony's so-called "full laptop" computer in an 8" form factor is like trying to run Vista on your mom's old P3. Seriously, this thing absolutely crawls. All this would be acceptable were it not for the very mediocre battery life (forget 4 hours, I couldn't even manage 2 with moderately heavy use), when any other netbook (that's right, netbook) for well under half the price outperforms it in battery life AND performance. Ironic; the 1.33Ghz processor really is a step down from the 1.66Ghz Atoms in netbooks, despite what I've been told to the contrary about the different "architecture."
But that's just on the hardware front. It powers on fast enough, but right from the get-go you're slammed with loads of bloatware and tons of programs that are slow to load into memory, one after the other (that's right, it's not even a dual core). These can be uninstalled--though not cleanly, as they leave some registry junk data behind. But there's little that can be done about yet another software-related problem: drivers. The video driver on here is one of the worst experiences I've had to date with video displays. HD video was an absolute disaster, even though the chipset (google "Poulsbo" or GMA500) claims it to be able to decode 720p HD video. So when I tried to play a simple HQ youtube vid (not even HD) and met with stuttering far worse than my friend's Asus Eee PC, which cost about 350, I was understandably upset. As for the faster disk drive with the SSD, this may be true. But when you can't run even basic productivity apps at full speed, any HD speed increase was unnoticeable. My Eee for instance has a conventional "slow" HD but gets the job done (except for copying files) much more quickly.
A lot of this might be Vista's fault. But before you think of downgrading to the faster, lighter XP, let me warn you--you'll have even more issues with Sony's drivers. Linux? Forget about it; Intel's Poulsbo drivers are in a pitiful state there too. When the most appealing attribute of the system--the hi-res screen, mind you--is nearly unusable with any other options, one can't help but feel a bit ripped off. The webcam's quality isn't very good (the Eee wins again), and the WWan (mobile broadband) is locked to Verizon, so don't think about other companies unless you "unlock" the chip: more time and trouble. The wireless-N support is supposed to be great, but it was dodgy on my home network (maybe it was just my unit or config...or vista, but again, my other devices worked fine). They keyboard and ergonomics are fine, but again, the only good words for this unit, for this price, are surface-deep.
Parting advice: the reviews on this "Lifestyle PC" are low for good reason. I really wish I'd seen Amazon's reviews earlier. (This unit wasn't from Amazon but from Sony themselves).

The unit seems to be very sturdy. I used it to mount a 65" plasma TV. It can definitely hold the weight. However, there is only one concern that I have, that is I wonder if the "clip lock" will become weak after a while thus preventing the TV from staying vertical. The TV will not fall, but it will be away (tilted forward at the top) from the bracket if the lock becomes weak.

Toshiba DR560 1080p Upconverting DVD Recorder with Built-in Tuner Review

Toshiba DR560 1080p Upconverting DVD Recorder with Built-in Tuner
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This is a review of the Toshiba DR560 Upconverting DVD Recorder with built in high def tuner.
BACKGROUND:
I bought this unit to handle a few needs with one piece of hardware:
1. I wanted a high def tuner for my tuner-less Sharp Aquos 26" LCD TV (purchased in 2007 before the new rule requiring tuners in TVs!)
2. I wanted to be able to take old analog home movie footage and transfer it directly to DVD with no editing. My old VHS tapes were approaching their shelf life limit.
3. I wanted to upconvert standard 480 resolution DVDs to make them look better on the Sharp TV.
SETUP:
The setup of the device was simple. I hate the fact that manufacturers still don't include HDMI cables with hardware that costs this much. So I grumbled for a minute and then purchased an HDMI cable for it (don't get me started on how most electronics stores charge an obscene price for digital cables! I bought one at a large discount retailer). All I had to do was connect the HDMI-out from the Toshiba to the HDMI-in on my high def Sharp. That's it. No audio plugs needed. I like having just a one wire connection.
OVERALL IMPRESSIONS:
For the remote control I don't have many complaints. It does not appear to be capable of controlling my TV - I didn't see anything in the guide about programming other devices. Someone please comment and correct me if I'm wrong on that. The keys are not lighted.
When I first started the player I went through the simple setup prompts. The instructions said I might need to hit the HDMI button on the remote to match up to the display of my TV, but it automatically selected 1080 for me. (there are lighted 480, 720, and 1080 indicators on the player itself, so you can tell what mode it is in) If you are not connected via HDMI then these lights don't function. I initially tried a component video connection and noticed that the resolution selection was not available.
When I first opened the DVD tray I thought I had activated a paper shredder! It is the loudest, oldest sounding motor noise I have ever heard from a DVD player. To me it sounds like it is straining just to open the tray. I hope that holds up long term.
I found the disk read and startup time to be a little long.
SPECIFIC IMPRESSIONS:
UPCONVERTING DVD PLAYER:
I put in a DVD - "Star Wars Attack of the Clones" - to test the upconverting video quality. I was immediately concerned with how loud the motor was in spinning up the DVD. But my worry went away once I hit "play". Once you start playing the movie the motor noise goes away and is very quiet.
To test the upconverting quality I played a scene from the movie on the DVD player, and then switched over and played the same scene on an Xbox 360 connected to the same TV via a component video connection. To my untrained eye the upconverted picture was brighter and had a slightly higher level of detail. So I was satisfied with it.
DVD RECORDER:
I have only used DVD-R recording media. Once I try a DVD+-RW disk I will update this review. But using the DVD-R was very user friendly. You pop in a blank DVD-R disk and the machine has it ready to go in a few seconds. No interaction needed.
I then hooked up a VCR using the RCA video and audio ports (the recorder included RCA and S video cables). There's one set of inputs on the back and one on the front. I used the back ones because it was just as convenient for me.
Before recording I went into the DVD recording options menu and selected it to do automatic 5 minute chapter breaks.
All I had to do what hit play on my VCR and hit record on the DVD recorder. A little red disk of light displays on the panel so that you know it's recording. Going from memory I believe the recording quality options were 1 hour, 2, 4, 6, and 8.
I was able to record successfully from both VHS and a HI-8 Camcorder feeds (both using the RCA jacks).
Once the tape finished I hit stop on the recorder, and it finished writing the recording very quickly (less than one minute for 2 hours of recording). I then had the option to edit the title that appears on the menu, which is not the most intuitive process using the remote control. I had also expected it to create a DVD menu with chapters for every 5 minute break, but it only had one menu selection. When playing back the disk it did skip 5 minutes every time I hit the Chapter+ button.
As a final step I "finalized" the DVD to make it able to play on other DVD players. I tested the disks on a circa 1997 Sony DVD player, and also a 2005 Toshiba. DVDs that I created from VHS played fine on both players, but the DVD I recorded from the Hi-8 tape source would not play correctly on the 1996 DVD player. It played fine on the 2005 player. I still need to test more Hi-8 recordings to see it that was an isolated problem or not.
UPDATE 05/30/08: I think it's just my 1997 Sony DVD player that just can't handle DVD-R media very well. After replaying VHS source and HI-8 source videos, they are both hit or miss as to whether they play correctly. I don't think this will be an issue for most people with newer DVD players.
I still need to test recording from a mini-DV digital source.
HIGH DEF TV TUNER:
I have a large UHF antenna mounted in my attic receiving local HD quality broadcasts (see my other reviews for that). I ran a coaxial cable from that antenna down to the DVD recorder and connected it to the antenna-in port. Then using the same HDMI-out feed to the TV I was able to tune in and watch local digital broadcast stations. I watched the season finale of American Idol on it (David vs David), and the picture quality was excellent. Changing channels does take about 2 seconds, as another reviewer said. That is a little slow, but I am willing to put up with slow channel changing for free high def!
Overall I would rate this DVD Recorder 4 of 5 stars. It certainly does serve the three needs I outlined at the start of this review.

Naxa 7-inch Digital TV with DVD Player and USB/ SD/ MMC Inputs Model NX-561 Review

Naxa 7-inch Digital TV with DVD Player and USB/ SD/ MMC Inputs Model NX-561
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I bought this tv to reduce wear and tear on my more expensive portable dvd player and must say it's better than I expected. It loads dvd's quickly and plays them quietly. It plays dvd (.vob) and .avi files using the memory card slots (only file formats I've tried so far) and outputs the picture and sound through the A/V output jack (in case you want to watch on a bigger tv or transfer file A/V to dvd-r, etc). The SD memory card works better than USB flash- seems to have faster video read times- just make sure you get a card class 4 or faster or the playback "stutters". The remote is responsive and there is an A/V input option in case you want to use it as a monitor for video games, etc. Sound quality from the two built in speakers should be sufficient for all viewing except in loud areas such as riding in a car. The only real cons: battery life is slightly short of 2 hours playback on a dvd; the screen is highly directional (blacks out at angle viewing), but what more can you expect from an 7" lcd screen? I've only had this tv a couple of weeks, so I can't speak to how long it will last, or what Naxa customer service is like. However, it's got alot features in a little package for around $125.

APC LE600 Line-R 600VA Automatic Voltage Regulator Review

APC LE600 Line-R 600VA Automatic Voltage Regulator
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The APC LE600 Line-R Automatic Voltage Regulator provides surge protection just like those power strips you can buy. But it also provides power protection as well, making sure the power going through it is kept at a steady voltage.
I live in an area where we get frequent brownouts. Our household voltage will dip, the lights dim, and some appliances will turn off (especially electronics, such as the DVR and computers). Consumer grade battery backup units seem to allow the reduction in power to flow right though; they tend to come on-line after the power is off completely. The LE600 has a transformer inside that boosts the incoming power so its a steady voltage. It switches on silently and boosts the power in a fraction of a second.
Now, the lights dim, but my DVR and my computer keep right on going.
Prior to installing a LE600 on my entertainment system I was burning through Dish Network DVRs every few months. Since adding the LE600 to that system 2 years ago I have not had a DVR failure. I recently had my battery backup on the computer upstairs give up the ghost (the batteries do wear out, and are expensive to replace.) I replaced it with another LE600. For my use, the LE600 swings into action quick enough to prevent the system from rebooting during a brownout. The downside? Its not a battery backup, so if you lose power completely, your system goes down.
There are more expensive alternatives, such as the APC AV H15BLK Home Theater 1500VA Power Filter and Power Conditioner (BLACK), if you want to protect very sensitive electronic components like that $10,000 tube-type amplifier you're dreaming about. I'm not an electrical engineer by any means, but my understanding is that the more expensive units do a better job of making sure the power sine wave is well formed. And lord knows, we all want a well formed power sine wave.
But, for my home theater and home computer use, the APC LE600 has been a quick, inexpensive and long lasting solution. Highly recommended.

Bose Lifestyle V30 Home Theater System - Black Review

Bose Lifestyle V30 Home Theater System - Black
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I am amazed at the ease of installation. I had the whole system up and running in less than 1/2 an hour- granted that I used the speaker wires and wall/ceiling mounts from my old BOSE AM 15's. The only added step was installing an adapter on the speaker wires from my Bose AM 15 so I could connect the Jewel cube arrays. (I had to use the old speaker wires because they where already installed in the walls.) The Adapt IQ is really what sets this system apart. We have a really wide living room in which the TV is off center. Balancing my old Bose AM 15 Direct Reflective speaker arrays with the old receiver was a nightmare. AdaptIQ did all the work in minutes. Every speaker is now perfectly balanced. We where a little concerned about spending an extra $1,000 for the V30 opposed to the V20, but the Jewel Cube Speakers are so crisp and clear. Music never sounded better. The surround sound fill the room evenly at all volumes. It's powerful when it's suppose to be, yet the dialogue is clear and coherent. The only adjustment I made was to increase the bass to +2 and Treble to +4. I left everything else on automatic. My old receiver was overbearingly powerful in which the details would get lost. The minimalist design of the Lifestyle systems is superb. The system blends in the room's decor perfectly. One note of caution, IF YOU SEE "PCM 2.0" ON YOUR BOSE DISPLAY-MAKE SURE YOUR DVD SOURCE IS ON THE RIGHT SETTING. Contrary to what the Bose saleman said to me, PCM 2.0 is not the same as Dolby Digital or DTS 5.1. I was getting PCM 2.0 on movies and Dolby Digital 5.1 on cable tv and video games. I have a PS3 in which I had to change the HDMI setting from 'linear' 2.0 to 'bitstream'- Problem solved - I now get 5.1 on all forms of media. In conclusion- If you have the means, I highly recommend this top end Lifestyle system. You will save in the long run. I spent $2,300 in 1999 when I mixed Bose speakers with a Yamaha receiver and was never 100 percent satisfied. I would have been much better off shelling out a few hundred more and getting a Lifestyle system back then.
