(More customer reviews)I picked up this item after getting a MonsterPower HTS3600 MKII for my home theater. I connected the HTS3600 and all my devices... waited a few seconds... beep! The HTS3600 would shut everything down due to the line voltage being too high. After some investigating I found out that the line voltage in my house was ~136-138 which is well above the safe limits (+/-7% of 120v.) I contacted the power company and alerted them immediately and they said they would send someone out in a few days to check the voltage coming into the house.
However, I wasn't willing to wait a few days just to be able to watch tv and movies again so I popped back on Amazon and picked up this little beauty. I received the Voltage Regulator the very next day (I must say the overnight for $3.99/item with AmazonPrime is wonderful.) I plugged it in and it immediately saw the over-voltage and adjusted power down from the 136-138 range down to a safer 125v which the HTS3600 was perfectly happy with.
The power company came out another day later and the guy sure enough found too much voltage coming into the house and they replaced the transformer a few hours later. Now the actual voltage coming into the house is in the 117-120 range.
The Voltage Regulator seems to kick in if line voltage drops below 117 and will step the voltage up to ~126-128. The over-voltage kicks in above 128v and will bring it down to ~123-125v. Even tho the power company replaced the transformer I still leave the HTS3600 plugged into this just to help stabilize the voltage and provide yet another layer of protection.
As others have said... THIS IS NOT A UPS. Opti-ups is simply its name. Many UPS do have similar features built in, but not all. This is simply a Voltage Regulator plain and simple. I would highly recommend one of these for any sort of sensitive electronics (Computer, home theater, TV, medical equipment, etc) as over-voltage conditions can weaken and cause severe damage to them immediately or over time.
